Ruth First and Joe Slovo: New book launched in Bloemfontein

Bloemfontein - Activist couple, Ruth First and Joe Slovo, were leaders of the war to end apartheid in South Africa. In keeping with the goals and objectives to ensure that the memory and legacy of the liberation struggle is not forgotten, Alan Wieder has written a book commemorating the role played by this activist couple.

Wieder launched his book called Ruth First and Joe Slovo in the War to end Apartheid in Bloemfontein this week. He says to truly understand democracy one needs to know the people who fought for it.

Wieder is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of South Carolina and has also served at the University of the Western Cape and Stellenbosch University.
